Dan’s great grandfather, John Ostlund owned a show repair shop on the corner of Puyallup Avenue and East D Street he opened in 1904. I want to tell a story of Dan’s grandfather, Phil Ostlund. Dan’s aunt was a nurse at Multi Care for 30 years. One day a patient saw her ‘Ostlund’ name badge and asked if she was a relation to Mr Ostlund, who owned the shoe store on “K” Street. Dan’s aunt said, ‘Yes.” The lady got crocodile tears in her eyes and said her mother used to take her and her sisters to Ostlund’s Shoes every year for back to school shoes. She said her and her sisters knew their mother didn’t have enough money to pay for them and Mr. Ostlund would give us free shoes every year. This is the type of people the Ostlund’s are.
